Harvard Business School selects Aide Chemists as host for immersive field course in Ghana

AIDE CHEMISTS recently had the opportunity to host a group of students from Harvard Business School together with students from Ashesi University in Accra as part of the School’s Immersive Field Course (IFC). IFC courses are designed to offer students in the second year of the 2-year program an experiential learning opportunity in an off-campus setting. This year over 280 students elected to take the course, a cornerstone of which is the expertise of faculty, who develop course content focused on teaching objectives met primarily through student-centered active learning opportunities, which can include project work, site visits, speakers, and participating in discussions with senior leadership. These students are typically in their late 20’s and have an average of 5 years of work experience in a range of fields including finance, real estate, consulting, healthcare, military, technology etc. “We are pleased to be working with Harvard Business School to provide students with a real-world learning experience in Ghana particularly in the healthcare sector and the pharmaceutical industry” said Pharm David Addo, Co-Founder & Chief Product Officer at Aide Chemists. “We feel certain that the students were able to gather insights here that they would never be able to glean from a classroom discussion alone. The Co-Founder of Aide Chemists has emerged as the Health & Wellness(Orthodox) award recipient at the just ended 40 under 40 Achievers Award held at Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel in Accra on October 8, 2021.

40 under 40 is an initiative from Xodus Communications Limited which seeks to identify, honour, and celebrate a cross section of the nation's most influential and accomplished young business leaders under the age of forty from a wide range of industries.

The prestigious award is a recognition of his dedication and commitment in building the healthcare sector as well as being a highly respected advocate for best practices in the field of pharmacy.

Speaking to the media after receiving the award, Pharm David Addo expressed gratitude to God, his family, friends, staff ,and clients for their commitment to pushing the vision and mission of the companies he is involved with.

He also thanked the people of Akyem Tafo of the Abuakwa North Constituency of the Eastern Region for their support over the years.

''I am honoured and humbled by this award. I have come far from ground zero to this level. My story can be a case study in business schools. Without the support of the Ghanaian people and particularly the associates at the companies, I won't have come up here tonight. David Addo took the opportunity to call on government and all healthcare stakeholders in the industry to invest more into the pharmaceutical sector to make it more attractive for the youth to venture to unearth more talents in the country.

''I call on the Government, especially the Ministers of Health & Trade, to pay attention to small scale pharmaceutical manufacturers in Ghana because they are the future of Ghana's pharma landscape. They can support us with machinery and working capital to grow into big pharma over a period of time. Next time they provide grants to pharma sector, a percentage should go to small scale pharmaceutical sector.

Run by a determined young woman seeking to succeed in a male dominated profession, Aide Chemists, a leading retail pharmacy chain in the country has a firm focus of becoming the first pharmaceutical retail of choice in Ghana and the West Africa sub-region, offering affordable but quality products to clients. Mrs. Abigail Amma Abora Addo, the CEO of Aide Chemists, said the opportunity to enter the retail space was desirable because some pharmacy owners usually lack requisite industry experience to enable them provide the pharmaceutical care service required to achieve profitability while serving the community.
