Aide Chemists, a tech-enabled pharmacy chain, has been selected for the 2025 HealthTech Hub Africa Accelerator Program. This initiative, led by the Novartis Foundation and implemented by Villgro Africa and Jhpiego, supports startups integrating digital health solutions into African public health systems.

Founded in 2014 and headquartered in Accra, Aide Chemists operates over 20 pharmacy outlets across Ghana, primarily in suburban and rural areas. The company serves over 20,000 registered clients and impacts over 30,000 patients monthly through medication dispensing, counselling, and diagnostic services.

Aide Chemists leverages digital platforms to enhance healthcare delivery. Their Momentum App offers a 24/7 online pharmacy, telepharmacy consultations, and medication therapy management. Additionally, the Aide ERP system streamlines operations for their pharmacy network.

The 8-month accelerator program offers Aide Chemists a comprehensive range of resources to scale its innovative digital health solutions, including mentorship, technical support, funding, and opportunities to collaborate with public sector partners. The program aims to validate and scale innovative health solutions that address challenges such as limited healthcare access and workforce shortages in sub-Saharan Africa.

AIDE CHEMISTS recently had the opportunity to host a group of students from Harvard Business School together with students from Ashesi University in Accra as part of the School’s Immersive Field Course (IFC). IFC courses are designed to offer students in the second year of the 2-year program an experiential learning opportunity in an off-campus setting.

This year over 280 students elected to take the course, a cornerstone of which is the expertise of faculty, who develop course content focused on teaching objectives met primarily through student-centered active learning opportunities, which can include project work, site visits, speakers, and participating in discussions with senior leadership. These students are typically in their late 20’s and have an average of 5 years of work experience in a range of fields including finance, real estate, consulting, healthcare, military, technology etc.

Under this partnership, Aide Chemists will integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into their day-to-day operations, enabling personalized healthcare for patients. This integration will involve the incorporation of Aide Chemists’ ERP, the development of the Momentum E-Commerce and Patient Health Management Platform, and the connection of distribution and e-commerce systems to Causal Foundry’s AI Reinforcement Learning platforms. By leveraging these technologies, Aide Chemists will gain comprehensive insights into their operations, particularly in low to middle-income communities where Aide Chemists branches and Momentum franchise networks are located in Ghana.

The primary focus of this collaboration is to conduct adaptive experiments that deepen the understanding of disease prevalence patterns, analyze patient demand, and monitor health outcomes through impactful interventions. These efforts will be particularly relevant to the Aide Cares Programme, which aims to make affordable and accessible medicines available to vulnerable communities, especially those affected by chronic conditions such as diabetes and hypertension.
